Hi! I live in a small village named Woodville in the County of Derbyshire which is in the Midlands, England.
This is in the south of the county on the border with Staffordshire and Leicestershire, areas that were extensively worked by way of deep mines and then strip mines for coal and clay.

Now many years after the last deep mine closed and only a little strip mining going on at present, the area has now begun to benefit from a lot of landscaping.

The Swadlincote Woodlands the Swadlincote Ski Centre and just to the rear of this the recently constructed Skateboard area, click here are all a couple of hundred yards down or across the road and the whole site is what I call the beauty spot, because compared to the coal and clay workings of years ago it really is beautiful.

Go for another three minutes or so and you come to Eureka Park and across the road is the Swadlincote Fish Ponds. click here

Changing direction slightly from our house, making towards the Skateboard area, make a left turn into Poole Street walk for about 4 minutes and we get to Mason and Cash Pottery, T.G.Green, makers of, among other thing, the famous Cornishware, here you will find these on sale and a bit of a Museum. click here Go back towards the Skateboard area, go past for a couple of minutes and we have Maurice Lea Memorial Park. click here this can be reached from our house in about 7 minutes using my powered wheelchair. Apart from the ordinary things like people walkind dogs, teenagers etc playing football and other games, things like FESTIVALS are held here. and click here
Just across the road we have Gresley Common, among other things the area is used for Easter and the August Bank Holiday Fun Fairs. click here

Starting from our house again, if we go past the Swadlincote Woodlands and the Swadlincote Ski Centre for another 3 or 4 minutes we get to Swadlincote shopping area, click here for some new photo's.
Also in the Town is a snooker hall, leisure centre and Shapes Pottery Centre which is like a small museum.

Changing direction from our house going less than two and a half miles(about 50 minutes using my powerchair) towards Leicestershire, we get to Conkers, a lot of this stands on the demolished Rawdon Colliery. This site now incorporates, Wildlife, Sculpture, Lakeside and Activity Trails, Ashby Canal Basin, Lakeside Covered Amphitheatre and the usual Restaurants, to name just a few. Some of the special activities include, Pantomime, Christmas, New Year Parties and masses of events featuring tribute bands, just type "Conkers derbyshire" into your search engine.

Just go over the Marquis Bridge and you are in Sarah's Wood, includes more walks and play area.

Instead of going over the Marquis Bridge walk along the Canal path for about five minutes and you come the Moira Furnace.click here

About 3 miles in the direction of Derby and we come to Formark Resevior,(Carvers Rocks end)spent a lot of time here as a kid.
You can walk almost the entire length from to the Formark end, the car park is open at this end, payment required. In places this end resembles a beach shorline. click here
